I somehow ended up with a degree in mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge, but I think this is mostly because Cambridge doesn't like admitting it made mistakes. I did a lot of Italian in my spare time and hung around History of Science quite a bit too. I was fairly active in the Archimedeans, and have been keen on recreational mathematics ever since. Italian is probably the thing I'm best at.
I went to Rome in 1989 and spent about six years there: a couple of years as a lettore at Rome's La Sapienza in the Faculty of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences, and the rest of it being a dogsbody for the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana. (Yes, it really is "della Enciclopedia", Italian grammar notwithstanding.)
I currently work for Ericsson. I like most kinds of games to some extent, but I can't stand things like casino games which strike me as being at best useful as probability exercises. I'm not particularly interested in historical wargames, and don't want anything to do with things like Magic: the Gathering, even though the game mechanism is interesting.
